Scalable Payload Control Engine and Data Processor

The Netherlands is a world leader in space instrumentation. However, the Dutch space instrumentation ecosystem is dependent on foreign suppliers for robust and high-performance control and data processing electronics. In addition, existing solutions worldwide offer not the preferred flexibility and scalability to develop attractive full-fledged instrument payloads.

The technological solutions resulting from this R&D project will reduce the dependence on foreign parties in order to develop a full-fledged (Earth) observation instrument at national level. These instrumentation systems will also have the flexibility to accommodate a wide range of satellite platforms. Overall, it will improve the competitiveness of Dutch space instruments.

The final result of this project is the development of a compact prototype of the scalable and flexibly deployable payload controller and data processor. Research focuses include: hardware and software architecture of the controller and data processor that is highly scalable, rigid methods for reliability analyses and justification, efficient and predictable design processes, thermo-mechanical aspects and, of course, the development of the electronics and control software.
