Detection of schips
Thanks to the materials and electronics that underpin our modern technologies, almost all devices around us have a recognisable electromagnetic “fingerprint". In this project, the information chain from sensor to screen for detection of dark vessels, ships that have not registered with the Automatic Identification System, will be further shaped.
Quantum magneto sensing system
The intended result is a robust and reproducible measurement system that makes ships reliably detectable in port environments, with an emphasis on system performance under realistic conditions rather than solely intrinsic sensitivity. In the first half of the year, work will be done on an Optical Detected Magnetic Resonance (ODMR) system, electronics and data processing module (including a gradiometer configuration to suppress overlapping noise). Based on this, an ODMR system will be designed and realised that will be tested in the next six months.
Collaboration
Collaboration between four different universities of applied sciences, i.e. Fontys University of Applied Sciences, Saxion University of Applied Sciences, The Hague University of Applied Sciences and Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, will further strengthen the collaboration, which already exists by offering the joint degree professional master Applied Quantum Technology. Both the future potential user, i.e. Rijkswaterstaat, and an SME with experience in bringing innovative technology to the market, High Tech Alliance, will be involved in this. This also immediately investigates the possibility of a business case based on verified requirements of a user.
