AQUAM

Angiogenesis Quantification using UltrAsound and Monodispersed microbubbles

About one in two people is confronted with some type of cancer in their lifetime. Timely diagnosis saves lives, also enabling cost-effective therapy and/or minimally invasive treatment, and improved outcome and quality of life for patients. However, timely cancer diagnostics is hampered by cost and complexity of the available diagnostics, based on costly imaging technology and (image-guided) biopsies. Cost-effective yet reliable alternatives are urgently needed.

Project aims

Towards this end, the AQUAM project aims at developing, testing and optimizing dedicated monodispersed microbubbles, acoustic detection schemes, and quantitative analysis techniques for cost-effective, early and accurate detection of cancer angiogenesis by means of contrast-enhanced ultrasound.
