The Netherlands is a leader in medtech
The Netherlands has a strong position in medical technology. Companies such as Philips are demonstrating how Dutch expertise in medical technology, AI and connected care is contributing to the healthcare of the future. This innovation was on display at the Philips stand during the conference, which was visited by, amongst others, the Governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz. According to NIN Boston, this demonstrates that Boston is an important and growing hub for medtech, both nationally and internationally.
Investment in the medtech ecosystem
The government is investing €102.5 million up to 2036 in strengthening the Dutch medtech ecosystem. This is expected to be matched by an investment of at least the same size from the private sector. Philips has already pledged €50 million. The investment is focused on AI-supported image-guided therapies and robotics, the hospital of the future and a better-connected national medtech ecosystem.
Two ecosystems that reinforce each other
For NIN Boston, this presents an opportunity to strengthen the ties between two leading innovation ecosystems. Massachusetts boasts world-class research institutions and hospitals, start-ups, investors and an established life sciences and medtech industry. The Netherlands complements this with strengths in medical technology, engineering, clinical innovation and international collaboration.
NIN Boston is working behind the scenes on new ways to bring Dutch and Massachusetts medtech innovators closer together, thereby turning shared strengths into valuable collaborations. More on this will follow later.
