An important step: collaboration is essential for successful innovation.  Solutions to societal challenges such as energy and climate change, (digital) security and healthcare are more likely to succeed if the relevant parties join forces.

Comprehensive innovation as the key to impact

The Netherlands is brimming with innovations. But all too often, solutions get stuck – not because the technology fails, but because it is insufficiently aligned with people, policy or practice. The core of this action plan is therefore clear: innovation only really works when knowledge of both technological and socio-cultural aspects is developed from the outset.

This means bringing researchers from all scientific disciplines together around the table and collaborating with businesses and civil society organisations. Only in this way can solutions emerge that are not only smart, but also desirable, workable and sustainable. The action plan is not an end point, but an invitation to everyone in the innovation ecosystem.
