Medical Technology Innovation Mission to India

8 January 2026

The Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) is organising a medical technology innovation mission to India from 19 April to 25 April 2026. The mission is aimed at organisations and knowledge institutions active in (bio)medical technology (MedTech), medical imaging, diagnostics, digital healthcare, AI in healthcare or data-driven health innovation. During the mission, future market opportunities in India will be explored for co-creation, research and development partnerships, and scalable pilot projects with Indian innovators. Applications for the mission can be submitted until 15 January 2026.

Key Enabling Technologies
MedTech

India is undergoing a radical transformation in the fields of medical technology (MedTech), digital healthcare, AI-assisted diagnostics and health data infrastructure. The MedTech sector is currently estimated to be worth between $16 and 20 billion. This figure is expected to rise to between $24 and $30 billion by 2030, driven by the production of medical devices and technology, diagnostics and AI-enabled clinical tools. With over 10,000 HealthTech and MedTech start-ups, strong technical talent and supportive national policies for R&D and manufacturing, India offers significant opportunities for collaboration in the areas of:

  • AI for medical imaging and biosignal processing.

  • Data-driven solutions for the healthcare sector.

  • Wearable technology and electronics.

The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), India’s national digital health backbone, is accelerating the standardisation of electronic health records (EHRs), interoperability and the portability of health data for more than 1.4 billion people. This scale makes India one of the world’s largest testbeds for AI in healthcare, population-level data infrastructure, digital public goods and the integration of medical devices.

What can you expect from the mission?

The mission brings together experts from the Dutch and Indian ecosystems to explore opportunities for research and development, strengthen collaborations and develop MedTech solutions that address challenges in healthcare. The aim is to deepen our understanding of the MedTech landscape, AI in healthcare and the digital health ecosystem in India.

Potential areas of collaboration include the use of AI-driven, labour-saving technologies to tackle the shortage of healthcare staff in the Netherlands (for example, in elderly care, cancer screening and the management of chronic conditions). In addition, there are opportunities for cross-border R&D, in which Dutch innovators collaborate with Indian research centres to jointly develop AI algorithms, clinical datasets and innovative healthcare technologies.

Who can take part?

This mission is aimed at innovators, researchers, engineers, clinicians, ethicists, entrepreneurs, business developers and anyone affiliated with a research institution, academic medical centre, technology company or patient organisation.

Are you actively involved in one of the MedTech sectors listed under ‘Why India?’? If so, this innovation mission might be of interest to you.

Provisional programme

During the mission, three key hubs will be visited: New Delhi, Hyderabad and Bengaluru. Each hub represents a crucial component of India’s policy, digital healthcare and MedTech ecosystem.

  • New Delhi is the hub of India’s health policy, digital health architecture and regulatory ecosystem. It provides the policy, regulatory framework, health data and national programmes that are essential for international cooperation.

  • Bengaluru is India’s strongest cluster in the fields of AI, digital healthcare, imaging, machine learning-based diagnostics and the integration of hardware and software. This makes it an ideal ecosystem for collaboration with pioneers in AI healthcare, imaging experts, researchers in biosignal processing, digital health platforms and deep-tech medtech innovators.

  • Hyderabad complements Delhi and Bengaluru with scalable manufacturing and clinical validation environments. Telangana’s vision for the life sciences sector aims for an investment of €12–13 billion by 2030. This encompasses medical technology manufacturing, prototyping, infrastructure for device certification, large-scale diagnostic enterprises and robust clinical data environments.

The programme has been designed to provide a broad overview of the latest developments in these three key hubs. It includes visits covering a wide range of topics relating to innovation, policy-making and ecosystem development in MedTech, AI in healthcare and digital health.

The programme is still being developed, and RVO will tailor the final programme as closely as possible to the participants’ interests.
