Four subsidy modules within Aviation in Transition (LiT): impetus for sustainable aviation innovation

14 April 2026

Aviation in Transition (LiT) is an eight-year programme in which the central government and the Dutch aviation sector collaborate intensively on a single shared ambition: climate-neutral flying by 2050. LiT aims for a fundamental breakthrough in making aviation more sustainable. The participating partners are developing energy-efficient solutions, lighter materials and systems, among other things, and are working on fully CO₂-free propulsion technologies, such as hydrogen-based applications. Within this program, five grant modules have now been opened via the LiT Open Calls, supporting innovation projects at various stages.

Sustainable Mobility

If you contribute to reducing harmful emissions in the aviation sector with your startup, SME, or knowledge organization, the LiT Open Calls offer funding to develop and validate innovative solutions.

The four different modules offer opportunities for various organizations and innovation phases, ranging from early ideas and feasibility studies to support for startups and larger research projects.

Venture boosters

  • Specifically for start-ups with questions regarding, for example, financing or product-market fit within the aviation transition.

  • The subsidy reimburses up to 50% of the costs, with a maximum of €20,000.

  • Closing: 1 December 2026, 17:00 PM

  • Total budget for this module: €100,000

Knowledge- and testvouchers

  • For SMEs wishing to have a knowledge question answered or technology tested by a knowledge institution.

  • The subsidy covers 50% of the costs for conducting the test, with a maximum reimbursement of € 15,000.

  • Closing date: 1 December 2026, 17:00 PM

  • Total budget for this module: € 300,000

Feasability projects

  • Aimed at mapping the technical and economic risks of innovation projects, for example through studies or market research.

  • The grant amounts to a maximum of 50% of the eligible costs, with a maximum of € 100,000.

  • Closing date: 9 December 2026, 17:00 PM

  • Total budget for this module: € 3,888,262

Supporting research

  • For knowledge institutions conducting research into technologies for clean aviation, such as new propulsion systems.

  • Grants can amount to up to €1.25 million per project.

  • Closing date: 1 June 2026, 23:59 PM

  • Total budget for this module: € 6,250,000

With these modules, LiT offers a coherent package that supports the entire innovation chain: from early exploration and knowledge questions to large-scale collaboration and fundamental research. In doing so, the scheme makes a significant contribution to the transition to a future-proof and sustainable aviation sector.

The subsidy modules are issued and managed by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO).
