Five new thematic calls in preparation for public-private partnerships

NWO is developing five new calls for proposals within the Mission line of the NWO-KIC programme. These calls will fund impact-driven research by consortia consisting of knowledge institutions, businesses and civil society organisations focused on various societal challenges. Themes such as energy storage and conversion, imaging technology in healthcare, and impact measurement in transitions are currently being developed into calls for proposals.

To inform potential applicants and other interested parties in good time, NWO publishes the themes on which funding will be allocated in advance. These calls are expected to be published in the autumn of 2026. 7 million euros in funding will be available per call. In addition, a percentage of co-funding (in-kind or in cash) will be required for each call. Further information will be available upon publication of individual calls.  

The themes of the calls currently being prepared 

  • New materials and manufacturing processes for large-scale energy storage and conversion

  • Monitoring and impact assessment for societal impact and earning capacity

  • Organising circular economy ecosystems

  • Software sovereignty

  • Mobile and modular imaging technology for a healthy and safe society

Knowledge and Innovation Agendas 

Under the Mission programme line, NWO annually develops several thematic programmes for consortia working on innovative research to address societal challenges. The themes are derived from the Dutch government’s mission-driven innovation policy, in particular the Knowledge and Innovation Agendas (KIAs) drawn up as part of this.
