The AI Gigafactories provide start-ups, scale-ups, SMEs, industry, research institutions and public authorities with access to advanced computing infrastructure for training, validating and fine-tuning advanced AI models. Together with the existing network of 19 AI Factories, they are intended to strengthen Europe’s technological leadership, resilience and strategic autonomy.
For whom
Industry consortia, cloud and hardware suppliers, research institutions and public sector organisations wishing to contribute to the construction and operation of an AI Gigafactory.
Call for proposals
The call provides for two types of venue:
Four medium-sized sites: each with at least 75,000 advanced AI accelerators
Three large-scale sites: each with at least 100,000 AI accelerators
Each facility combines powerful AI processors, software and cloud technology, high-speed connectivity and energy-efficient data centres. Consortia can source hardware from suppliers in Europe or from other like-minded countries; the European Commission has signed letters of intent to this effect with AMD, NVIDIA and Qualcomm.

Application deadline: 12 November 2026
Expected contract award: early 2027
Start of construction: from 2027
Operational: no later than 18 months after the contract is signed
