High-tech materials are vital in many industrial sectors and crucial to creating a sustainable society. M2i is a Dutch initiative that brings together academia and industry to promote economic growth and create a sustainable society by researching and developing new technologies and materials.
The high-tech industry is strongly committed to M2i because the future success of many market sectors depends on breakthroughs in materials technology. New and innovative materials are crucial to achieving long-term competitiveness and outstanding business results in almost all industry sectors. Together with industry and academia, eight sectors were chosen in which materials play a key role in business opportunities: aerospace; automotive; maritime; materials production; medical devices; professional and consumer products; energy and power systems; and civil engineering. Although the value drivers for economic growth and cost reduction vary widely due to the considerable differences in the areas of application, the sectors have a lot in common in terms of research and development needs.
