Single-photon detection in any platform

Optical technologies are essential for quantum computing, communication, and simulation. The large-scale optical systems required are only possible by the miniaturization brought by photonic integrated circuit (PIC) chips. Integrated detectors are a crucial part of PICs, and superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors (SNSPDs) offer high efficiency, low dark counts, and fast recovery.

Bringing high-quality single-photon detectors into any photonic chip

In this project we will develop a new technology that allows to print SNSPDs on-demand with the performance required by quantum technologies. We will do this by developing a nanofabrication process and performing several experiments to validate this work. The experiments will focus on an entanglement station for future quantum networks and a broadly-applicable reconfigurable detector bank including several detectors and photonic active elements.
