Europe and the Netherlands are making Copernicus satellite data more accessible to stimulate use
The European Commission is making its Copernicus Earth observation program more accessible to users across Europe. It does this with a central platform for all satellite data, thematic 'hubs' and national incentive activities in European member states. This way, governments, companies and citizens can make even better use of the great potential of satellite data.
European satellites provide valuable data day in and day out that is freely and openly available. To date, the Sentinel satellites and other missions of the Copernicus program have collected 34 Petabytes of data on land, water, ice and air. More than 600,000 people have now used this. But the potential is much greater, the European Commission thinks. With three specific activities, it aims to better meet the needs of end users and lower the barrier to using satellite data and derived information products.
