Less turbulance, less fuel consumtion

The SideWings are polyester wings that are mounted under a semi-trailer. The underside of a trailer creates huge aerodynamic drag, resulting in high fuel consumption. The Ephicas SideWings captures the airflow at the lower end of the tractor. The result: a maximized economic, ecological and safety solution for tractor-trailer combinations.

Ephicas SideWing™ for lorries

Ephicas

The Ephicas SideWings are a smart application of aerodynamics. In lorries, the most aerodynamic drag is created on the underside of the trailer between the trailer and the semi-trailer. The wind flows inward and weighs down the lorry, which doesn't start losing speed, but consuming more fuel. Attaching a plastic wing to the side of the semi-trailer solves the problem and reduces the lorry’s fuel consumption by up to 15%. This smart technology was developed by the Delft University of Technology and has been applauded by the transport sector as a standard solution with the potential of being used around the world and contributing towards a cleaner environment.

Dutch Collaborations in Green Mobility

The development of the side wing was a joint project by the Faculty Aerospace Engineering of TU Delft, Ephicas, and Technology Foundation STW.
